I'M SORRY, CAN YOU SPEAK UP?

IT'S BIKE WEEK HERE IN GETTYSBURG. IT'S REALLY COOL TO HEAR ALL OF THOSE MOTORCYCLES REVVING THEIR MOTORS. AND REVVING AND REVVING AND REVVING. I WOULD LIKE THE BATTLE'S CANNON FIRE TO QUIET THINGS DOWN. Maybe I've been doing CPE too long, but when I see motorcyclists riding down the street sans helmets, I'm thinking, "Will they be a level one trauma or level two?" And "Will I be able to find their ID and contact information in the wallet chained to their pants?"

Signs, signs, everywhere are signs

I haven't seen this many signs since I read John's Gospel. THE LTS has had a busy week putting up new uniform directional signs across the Ridge over the past week. Because I am an influential member of the blogosphere, they decided to pander to me by doing two things: ONE - everything refers to this institute at Lutheran Theological Seminary. No location! Now, there is no THE, but we have 24 ways to graffiti it in for the summer Greek hazing, err learning. TWO - the signs are color coordinated to match this blog, and the Coach's alma mater, Alma! Now that my ego trip has ended, it is off to slay more evil projects and papers.

Something Odd I Heard

The southern PA & Maryland area got socked with a big snowstorm last night. My TV comes on as kind of an alarm clock. As I'm listening to the anchor from the Baltimore station talk about how many schools are closed, included in the two hour delays was the U. S. Naval Academy. Just didn't think that would be effected.

Springtime

The first sign of Spring has come to the LTS. Tour buses have been sighted along Seminary Ridge. Ah, life in a tourist town.

A Bone To Be Chewed When The Gales Of November Came Early

Friday afternoon was not a good day. I've been having troubles getting my MacBook to boot up and install Windows, and then I choked on a Greek Quiz like Mama Cass on a ham sandwich. So I went for a drive. Wound up on Little Round Top. It was a cold and blustery day with the leaves at near full color. Took some photos. Wanna see 'em ... here ya go. The title of this post comes from the Gordon Lightfoot song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." Anytime I'm out in cold, windy weather, I think of this song.

Happy First Day of School!

Actually, the Fall Semester here at LTSG began yesterday, but that was all orientations seminars and getting free stuff. TODAY we started classes. And for most of the first-year Summer Greek surviving Juniors, that meant four classes back to back to back to back, with a side order of two worships and two meals. And being sequestered in the same room that we were sentenced to spend our penatence of Summer Greek in for most of the day. (I've been spending too much time with the lawyers in the class.) Now I have a bunch of reading to do, two or three papers to write and that's not counting the three classes I haven't been to yet. Welcome to grad school. So, I'm blogging. Why do today what you can do this weekend, unless there's a good football game on. Of course, ANY football game is a good football game. btw, I'm trademarking the title of this post and will be happy to license it to Hall Mark or any other card company. I'm a poor grad student studying languag...

A morning walk in the rain

Image
I got up early this morning and decided to go for a walk. (I "borrowed" the idea from Law & Gospel .) LTSG is on Seminary Ridge, but at the corner, it turns into Confederate Avenue. If you're familiar with Gettysburg, (the battle or the movie) Confederate Avenue is now the point from which Pickett's Charge was launched on the third day of the battle. It is also the site of many of the monuments to the Confederate troops who served and died here. I travelled the route a week or so ago with my parents in a car tour of the battlefield, but until talking to L&G, I didn't realize how close they were. I set out at 7 a.m. to see how far I could get by 8. I took my Bible and Devotions book with me , because I figured, you're sitting on one of the most historically inspiring areas of ground in the country, you may as well use it. I made it the mile and a quarter to the Virginia monument in 45 minutes (good time for an out of shape OLine coach with a bad knee...
