Holy Week for Law and Order fans

Thanks to HeyJules at Maced with Grace for posting this from Positive Christianity.

Jesus had to face a lot of things we do not have to deal with. Our crucifixions, as severe as they are, are nothing like Jesus Christ went through.

First of all, there is His trial. Today, if we were to have Jesus Christ in court and try Him, right away the case would be thrown out. I have a fascinating piece I'd like to share with you.

Do you realize that Jesus was not tried once, but five times? He was tried before Arras. He was tried before Caiaphas. He was tried before the Sanhedrin. He was tried before Pilot. And He was tried before Herod. Now, here is what the state's Attorney General of the state of Michigan says about His trial. He says it was illegal. These are the reasons why:

#1--The arrest and trial on a capital charge was made during night time, and that was expressly forbidden.
#2--The trial was not public.
#3--The trial was completed in one day, and that was a direct violation of Hebrew law which required capital crime trial verdicts to be issued on the following day.
#4--The trial was held on Passover, or Holy Day. It could not have been legally completed until the next day, the Sabbath. Both of these days forbid the holding the court.
#5-The members of the high Hebrew court, (the Sanhedrin), attempted to get Jesus to testify against Himself. This kind of testimony was forbidden in the court of that day.
#6--The high priest and the Sanhedrin misconstrued one of Jesus' answers, charging that He had convicted Himself with His own words of blasphemy.
#7--The Sanhedrin unanimously condemned Him to death, which under Hebrew Law would have automatically acquitted Him. The Sanhedrin code provided that at least one member of the court should serve as defense counsel for the accused.
#8--The arrest of Jesus was affected by the use of an accomplice, or a co-conspirator (Judas). There was no such thing as turning state's evidence in that day.
#9--The priest switched the charges to sedation and inciting a riot when they brought Jesus to Pilot. And Pilot twice pronounced Jesus innocent of any crime. But he backed down to the demands of the crowd that He be crucified.

And He was crucified. He was crucified after an illegal trial, and He was in the tomb. A lot of messages on Easter morning seem to end there.

But the message of Easter IS—that it doesn't end there—in Jesus' life, or in your own life. No matter how betrayed you have been, there IS a tomorrow. There is a future. There is new life beginning.
